Prof. Shaaban Khalil received his M.Sc. and the advanced diploma in theoretical physics from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), before earning his Ph.D. in Supersymmetry Phenomenology in 1997 through a joint program between Ain Shams University and ICTP. He continued his research career at renowned international institutions, obtaining a Fulbright Fellowship in the United States, followed by postdoctoral positions at the Universities of Madrid, Sussex, and Durham in the United Kingdom. In 2006, he was awarded the Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree, evaluated by the Royal Society of London.
Prof. Khalil became one of the leading experts worldwide in High Energy Physics, Supersymmetry, Dark Matter, and Beyond the Standard Model theories. He has published more than 300 international papers with thousands of citations, as well as influential reference books widely used by researchers. He led the establishment of the Egyptian Network of High Energy Physics and headed Egypt’s participation in the CMS experiment at CERN, contributing to the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
He has supervised numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and helped develop advanced scientific programs in the region. He currently serves as Director of the Centre for Fundamental Physics at Zewail City, Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton, and Founding President of the Arab Physical Society. He is also a member of international scientific committees within IUPAP, IAU, and AAS, and has received major awards, including the State Appreciation Award, the TWAS Prize, and the Shoman Prize.
