Prof. Hisham Abdel-Aziz Afifi

He graduated from the Faculty of Science, Menoufia University in 1987 and was appointed as a research assistant at the National Institute for Standards in 1990. He then obtained his PhD in Solid State Physics from Menoufia University in 1998. He progressed through the scientific ranks at the Institute until he attained the rank of Professor in 2009. He has taught part-time at Menoufia University, Al-Azhar University, and the American University in Cairo. He progressed through the administrative positions at the Institute, working as head of the Ultrasound Department, then head of the Mass and Force Metrology Division, then deputy head of the International Relations Office, then deputy head of the Institute, and finally head of the Institute. He has supervised numerous students in their Master's and Doctoral studies. He has attended more than twenty scientific conferences worldwide. He has published more than fifty research papers in international scientific journals. He is an international reviewer, editor, and editor-in-chief for several international journals. He prepared a book (in Arabic and English) titled a Glossary of Metrology and the ISO-9000 Quality System. He represented the Institute on numerous international committees and organizations. He has also been a member of the Standing Committee for Promotions in physics and astronomy since 2023.
