Prof. Arafa Hussein Aly

Prof. Arafa H. Aly is a faculty member in the Physics Department at Beni-Suef University, Egypt, specializing in solid-state physics as well as optical and acoustical physics. His research interests center on nanophotonics and nanophononics, and on the design of photonic crystal structures for advanced applications such as sensors, biomedical devices, and optical filters, as well as energy-saving applications. He is widely recognized for his innovative photonic crystal models for gas sensing, cancer detection, and biophotonic systems. Prof. Aly has an extensive publication record in leading international journals and maintains active collaborations with researchers worldwide.

He has a distinguished academic background, having completed postdoctoral appointments at several renowned institutions, including Seoul National University, Chonnam National University, the American University of Beirut (AUB), the University of Zaragoza, the Max Planck Institute (MPI), and the American University in Cairo (AUC), among others. His work bridges theoretical physics with practical material science applications, particularly in photonics and acoustic materials.

Prof. Arafa has supervised around 22 Master’s theses and 17 PhD dissertations. He served as Head of the Physics Department from 2013 to 2020 and currently serves as Dean of the Higher Technological Institute for Applied Health Sciences in Beni-Suef (2021–present). He is also the Chairman of the Egyptian Materials Research Society (Eg-MRS). With over 250 Scopus-indexed publications, more than 6,440 citations, and an h-index of 43.
